What is Reel Cradle Assembly?

The Reel Cradle Assembly consists of the reel base + gearbox + safety shield. The entire harvester reel is supported by a bracket set, driven to rotate by a pulley set, and protected by a shield set. It is the only rotating component on the harvester that “reaches out to touch the crop” — its spring teeth lift the rice stalks and guide them toward the cutter bar. During operation, it not only bears the full weight and impact loads of the reel, but also, through its internal continuously variable speed mechanism, allows the machine to adjust the reel speed at any time to suit different crops and forward speeds.

What Does the Reel Cradle Assembly Do?

Function Description
Lifting and positioning The full weight of the reel, rotational centrifugal force, and impact loads from guiding rice all ultimately rest on the cradle. The cradle is designed with adjustment mechanisms to control reel lift (adapting to crop height) and fore-aft tilt (adapting to lodging).
Power transmission and speed regulation Engine power is transmitted via belt to the variable speed pulley on the cradle, then to the reel shaft. A precision speed-change mechanism is housed inside the cradle to control the reel’s rotational speed.
Safety protection The high-speed rotating pulley and belt are fully enclosed by a shield set to prevent foreign objects from being drawn in and ensure operator safety.

Main Components of the Reel Cradle Assembly

The harvester cradle assembly consists of more than twenty harvester parts and can be divided into four major modules: support frame, variable speed pulley, tensioning mechanism, and shield system.

harvester header – cutter bar assembly
Cutter Bar Assembly

Support Frame

Includes the cradle weldment, support tube weldment, and drive shaft. The cradle spans both sides of the header, and the support tube connects the left and right sides into one unit.

Variable Speed Pulley — Technical Core

This is the most technically sophisticated and part-dense area of the entire assembly. It consists of a movable disc (sliding), fixed disc (stationary), inner sleeve and bearings, and seal rings.

Tensioning Mechanism — Hidden Wear Parts

Includes tension rod, tension spring, and tension wheel. Spring preload presses the tension wheel against the belt to compensate for belt elongation.

Shield System — The Safety Bottom Line

Includes inner/outer shields, front baffle, etc. It not only prevents personal injury but also blocks grass debris, dust, and moisture from entering the pulley, directly affecting the service life of bearings and seals.

Common Faults and Replacement Signals of Cutter Assembly

Fault Symptom Most Likely Cause Involved Module/Component
Reel speed cannot increase, slipping under heavy load Tension spring fatigue and insufficient tension, or belt wear and elongation Tensioning mechanism, pulley
Reel speed fluctuates, fast then slow Movable disc sliding surface scored and sticking, conical surface worn into grooves Variable speed pulley
Belt abnormal noise, edge fraying Conical surface wear or movable disc spring failure causing uneven wear Pulley
Abnormal noise and heat at cradle end Bearing wear, or dust ingress after seal failure Pulley bearing, seal ring
Reel “wobbles,” uneven striking on both sides of cutting width Cradle weldment deformed or weld cracked, support tube bent Support frame
Difficult to adjust height/tilt, cannot lock Adjustment mechanism worn, locking bolt failed Support frame
Shield scraping noise Shield deformed, mounting bolts loose Shield system

How to Choose the Right Reel Cradle Assembly Replacement Parts?

Different brands and models of cradle assemblies differ in mounting dimensions, pulley groove count, and shaft diameter. Before purchasing, be sure to purchase according to the specific combine harvester model and part number, and carefully verify with the supplier.

Confirm Model and Part Number

Harvester brand and model (e.g., Kubota DC70, Yanmar AW70V, Lovol RG50)

Serial number or OEM part number (providing the complete machine model and serial number is far more reliable than sending just a photo).

Confirm Replacement Scope

Wear parts: Belts, tension springs, bearings, seal rings (replace as needed).

Structural parts: Cradle weldment, support tube (replace only when collision deformation occurs).

Assembly parts: Variable speed pulley components should preferably be replaced as a group (movable disc, fixed disc, inner sleeve, bearings, seal rings together); old discs paired with new belts will shorten the new part’s life.

Confirm Material and Process

Weldments: Focus on weld fullness and post-weld alignment accuracy. Maikeyier’s forged steel blank cradle joints have much better impact resistance than pure steel plate bent parts.

Stamped shields: Focus on plate thickness and flanging strength.

Pulleys: Conical surface finish must meet standards; otherwise, belt life drops sharply.

Why Choose Maikeyier for Cradle Assemblies?

When purchasing harvester reel cradle assemblies and their parts, the most important things are durability and complete availability of wear parts. Maikeyier provides solutions to these pain points from source factory to supply chain integration.

Parts - Combine Harvester
Parts – Combine Harvester
Procurement Pain Point Maikeyier’s Response
Structural parts prone to cracking and deformation Cradle weldment and support tube are controlled by our own factory, using a combined forging and welding process with complete metal flow lines and strong impact resistance.
Wear parts (springs/belts/bearings) not durable Tension springs use high-quality spring steel; belts and bearings are strictly selected from partner suppliers to ensure precise dimensions and stable life.
Scattered parts, troublesome multi-supplier purchasing Cradle weldment, variable speed pulley, tension spring, shields, and fasteners are supplied in one stop, completing drive system procurement in one order.
Uncertain about model compatibility Covers mainstream harvesters such as Kubota, Yanmar, Lovol, and FMWorld; precise matching by model, OEM number, or photo.
Afraid of bulk inventory pressure Flexible MOQ; sample orders supported to verify quality first, then bulk orders.
