A: Symptoms include:

  • significant power loss, weak operation; 
  • blue or white smoke from the exhaust; 
  • excessive crankcase blow-by with heavy fumes from the breather;
  • abnormal knocking noises during operation;
  • noticeably increased oil consumption. If these symptoms occur, stop the engine immediately to prevent further damage.

  • Worn or aged mechanical seal (most common); 
  • cracks in the pump housing; 
  • loose mounting bolts or damaged gasket.
